THE JR Group recently welcomed housing minister Paul McLennan, along with members of the South of Scotland Regional Economic Partnership (REP), to one of its new-build projects in Burnfoot, Hawick.
The visit to the Fairhurst Drive development of 12 new homes, which is being delivered for Scottish Borders Housing Association (SBHA), was part of a series of events planned to launch the new South of Scotland Housing Action Plan.
The initiative, spearheaded by the South of Scotland Regional Economic Partnership (REP), aims to address the need for more, diverse housing options in the region.
Julia Mulloy, SBHA chief executive and member of the strategic action group on housing, said, “The Housing Action Plan reflects the vital role that housing plays in a successful economy. SBHA is committed to playing a significant role in the successful implementation of this Action Plan over the next two years and beyond, leveraging our strengths and partnerships to deliver much-needed affordable housing.
“Our ongoing projects in Burnfoot and other locations, exemplify our dedication to improving housing availability and quality in the south of Scotland.”
The first project The JR Group and SBHA have partnered on together, the development of 16 new build homes sits across two locations – the first at Fairhurst Drive, and the second at Leisham Drive – both in the Burnfoot area. The sites will include a mix of homes tailored for both families and older residents.
The Fairhurst Drive site will feature 12 homes, including one and two-bedroom cottage flats with accessibility features, as well as two and three-bedroom homes. The neighbouring development at Leisham Drive includes four additional three and four-bedroom properties.
Andrew Dallas, projects director of The JR Group, said, “This project has been our first working with Scottish Borders Housing Association in the region and it’s been a fantastic opportunity to be part of such an exciting project in the Burnfoot Community. It is great to see the Action Plan launched to help bring more high quality, sustainable homes to the area.
“It is something we are very passionate about and therefore we are delighted to help SBHA deliver. During the projects, we have called on the expertise of the local area, prioritising working with local suppliers, subcontractors and businesses to ensure that we can create a fantastic mix of homes tailored for families and older residents alike that meets the needs of the community.”
Completion at both sites is expected in early 2025.
