WALLACE Whittle is to utilise the expertise of retired and retiring engineers to help aid in the development and growth of those within the profession.
The environmental building services consultancy is offering paid flexible and part-time opportunities within its WW:Academy for retired and retiring professionals in mechanical, electrical, and public health engineering.
Those taking part will contribute to the creation of training materials and programmes to mentor the next generation of engineers, as well ensuring the accuracy and relevance of technical documents, templates, and standards, whilst also participating in quality and technical audits to maintain the highest standards of excellence.
Wallace Whittle said that the positions offer short, medium, and long-term contracts with fixed or flexible working hours, agreed days of commitment that work around the schedule of each individual, and competitive pay.
Richard Thomas, a current member of the WW Academy team, shares his experience, “Everyone is under so much pressure to get things done we have forgotten to pass the basics on to our young engineers. There are building blocks which when taught, give foundations to all that goes thereafter. The gut instinct of what is right and what is wrong is part of engineering. These basic building blocks help in getting this core understanding firmly at the centre of a young engineer’s career, giving them the foresight to see a situation which cannot be taught from a book.
“I don’t want to let my experience nor anyone else’s for that matter just disappear into the ether when we all at one point face retirement. Joining the Wallace Whittle Academy team means being given the opportunity to pass on knowledge to the next generation and it’s already been rewarding. I would absolutely recommend getting involved.”
Allan McGill, MD of Wallace Whittle, added, “We are thrilled to launch this initiative as a strategic effort to bridge the gap between our seasoned professionals and the next generation of engineers. This programme not only leverages the immense knowledge and experience of our retired and retiring engineers but also significantly benefits our existing staff and the broader industry.
“By engaging these experts on a flexible, part-time basis, we ensure that invaluable insights and best practices are passed down, enhancing the skill set and confidence of our junior engineers. This knowledge transfer fosters a culture of continuous learning and excellence within Wallace Whittle, strengthening our team’s ability to deliver top-notch engineering services.
“Moreover, the wider industry stands to gain from this initiative as we collectively work towards maintaining high standards and driving innovation. Ultimately, this initiative embodies our commitment to nurturing talent, promoting professional growth, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of our industry. We believe that by investing in people, we invest in the future of engineering excellence.”
