NARRO has announced that director Dominic Echlin has been awarded the Sir Arnold Waters Medal by the Institution of Structural Engineers, alongside Ben McIlroy of ARUP.
The award is in recognition of their outstanding presentation on the National Galleries of Scotland: National alteration and extension project.
Dominic and Ben’s presentation showcased groundbreaking engineering solutions implemented in the alteration of the National Galleries of Scotland: National. The ‘uniquely challenging’ project involved altering and extending the 19th century structure in the centre of Edinburgh’s World Heritage area to improve accessibility and exhibition areas.
The site was complicated by the three main railway lines running under the structure. Narri said the ‘collaborative efforts and technical prowess’ involved have set a new standard for excellence in the structural engineering industry.
Dominic’s expertise and commitment to the sensitive conservation of historic buildings have been instrumental in Narro’s success, with his collaborative approach and commitment to excellence earning him the respect and admiration of colleagues and industry peers alike.
“I am deeply honoured to receive the Sir Arnold Waters Medal alongside Ben McIlroy of ARUP for our presentation on the National Galleries of Scotland project presentation,” said Dominic Echlin. “This recognition is a testament to the dedication and expertise of our team at Narro and reaffirms our commitment to pushing the boundaries of innovation in structural engineering.”
Dominic and Ben were presented with the Sir Arnold Waters Medal at the Institution’s annual People and Papers Awards on June 7.
