THE annual Battle of the Badges football tournament, sponsored by Barratt Developments, has raised £20,200 for the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital’s official charity, the Archie Foundation.
Teams made up of emergency service specialists went head-to-head at the tournament held at the home of Cove Rangers Football Club on June 8, with the funds raised set to help the foundation transform services and experiences in healthcare and bereavement for babies, children, and families in Grampian.
Team Police came out on top in the tournament, after they beat Team SAS in the final, with Team NHS and Team Fire being knocked out in earlier rounds.
Attendees enjoyed face painting for the kids, meeting police dogs, getting to tour a fire engine, a tombola and a bouncy castle and meeting ‘Toffee the Unicorn’. Kids also had the chance to beat mascot ‘Archie Bear’ in goals. Barratt Developments supported the event for the second year as the main sponsor.
Maisie Mann, regional fundraising officer at The Archie Foundation, said, “Battle of the Badges is a day we look forward to every year, and we are beyond happy with this year’s fundraising total.
“The mascots had a brilliant time taking part in some fundraising footie fun! It is an incredibly special moment to see all the mascots walk out onto the pitch with their player on the day itself and we want to say a huge thank you to Barratt and David Wilson Homes for sponsoring this year’s event.”
David Palmer, MD at Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes North Scotland, added, “We are delighted to have yet again been part of the fundraising for this year’s Battle of the Badges tournament. It’s great to have seen such an impressive amount of money raised for this special charity on a day where families and children can enjoy time for themselves.
“Giving back to the communities in which we build has always been a priority for Barratt Developments, and we try our best to identify the charities most in need in our divisions with the help of our staff.
“Hopefully, these donations will help the incredible specialists at The Archie Foundation to continue the vital work they are doing across Grampian.”
