SHETLAND Islands Council staff are among those benefiting from the visit of a fully-equipped mobile classroom delivering certified heat pump training in Lerwick.
A South Lanarkshire College tutor is delivering training on heat pumps, unvented hot water cylinders, and water byelaws in the specially adapted vehicle. The council, alongside local energy firm Nordri Ltd, have nine employees taking part in the week-long event.
Staff from the local authority’s estate operations team are attending the training to learn more about heat pumps as part of an overall programme of energy efficiency work on council properties.
The mobile centre is part of a Scottish Government initiative, led by the Energy Savings Trust, to take training to rural areas of Scotland to avoid students having to attend training centres on the Scottish mainland.
Carl Symons, executive manager – environment and estate operations at Shetland Islands Council, said, “The training in new technologies to improve the energy efficiency of properties is in demand. Having this certified training delivered locally is a huge benefit for our staff and will help us with our installations to deliver on our net zero targets.”
