Contractor is boxing clever with Tranent donation

A dozen pairs of punch bag mitts have been donated to the Bronx Boxing Club in Tranent, East Lothian, by construction company The JR Group.

The club, which is based within the local area where the JR Group is currently working to deliver a development of 28 homes for East Lothian Council, offers boxing classes to children from the age of seven up to adults.

The club was established in 2010 by former boxer Alexander Brown to ignite the same passion as he had for the sport as a youngster among the children in the community.

There are currently six coaches who volunteer their time at the club, who have helped train numerous Scottish champions, as well as gold medallists in tournaments in England, Ireland, and Sweden, plus a Commonwealth Games representative. Most recently, the club has had three boxers selected to train at Boxing Scotland’s High Performance Centre in Glasgow to represent Scotland in international tournaments.

Gayle O’Hear, community engagement officer at The JR Group, said, “Whenever we start creating new developments across Scotland, it’s hugely important for us to also support the communities in which we build. That’s why we are delighted to be able to support Bronx Boxing Club, which is adjacent to the homes we are building. It is a fantastic local club which welcomes lots of children from the community and provides them with a hobby that is centred on exercise and keeping healthy.”

Richard Snaithe, lead coach at Bronx Boxing Club, added, “This generous donation from the team at The JR Group will enable us to ensure we have plenty of boxing gloves for our younger members. Our team is passionate about the sport and we love watching that same passion grow in the youngsters we train, with many going on to become champions and medallists. The coaches volunteer their time at the club so any equipment donation is gratefully received to help run our classes.”
