GLENROTHES’ iconic White Bridge is to undergo a facelift with work getting underway in early summer.
Works to enhance the B969 River Leven Bridge, known locally as the White Bridge, come following ‘extensive’ consultation with partners with an interest in health, safety, and wellbeing in the community, Fife Council said.
The bridge will be cleaned from top to bottom alongside parapet improvements and the installation of decorative lighting which will enhance the area – making the bridge a focal point of Riverside Park, the local authority added.
Work is anticipated to take around six weeks to complete the work. During this time, the bridge will be wholly or partially closed at various points. The project is programmed for tendering in the coming weeks.
Glenrothes area committee convenor, councillor Craig Walker, said, “The White Bridge is a well known landmark in Glenrothes, and a vital route for both vehicles and pedestrians, providing a crossing over the River Leven and a landmark for Riverside Park below.
“The planned works will not only improve the appearance of the bridge but they’ll also include some parapet and lighting improvements.”
