HOUSEBUILDERS Mactaggart & Mickel and Springfield, both part of the Springfield Group, have teamed up with Little Lothian Bookshop to provide book bundles to schools for World Book Day on March 7.
Freya McShane created Little Lothian Bookshop in 2020 from a love of reading and learning from books with her two children. To raise awareness of mental health initiatives targeted at children, Freya was keen to support local schools and nurseries with book bundles dedicated to emotional wellbeing skills development and reached out to local businesses for donations.
With homes for sale in Haddington, Mactaggart & Mickel contributed book bundles for each year group at Letham Mains and Springfield, who are regenerating a derelict housing site in the area, supported Deans Primary with book bundles.
Freya McShane said, “I’m so grateful to The Springfield Group for their support in ensuring such a valuable resource is shared with local schools to help educate young children about emotional wellbeing. They are a great tool that can help encourage little ones to discuss their feelings. I’ve had such great response to the campaign with over 22 companies pledging their support and in total have donated over 58 bundles to 28 schools and nurseries.”
Jordana Young, community engagement coordinator, added, “Across The Springfield Group, we are always keen to support small, local groups, organisations, and charities in areas where we are building homes. We especially loved Freya’s goal at Little Lothian Bookshop to support schools with a fantastic resource about emotional wellbeing for children and we were keen to help. We’ve donated books to Deans Primary School and Letham Mains and have also contacted other schools in Edinburgh and the Lothians to help share such a valuable tool for schools.”
