Platform at Addiewell Railway Station to be demolished and rebuilt

Network Rail

WORK on a £500,000 platform upgrade at Addiewell Railway Station is to get underway this weekend.

Network Rail will demolish the existing platform and replace it with a more modern and easily maintained surface, with drainage also being improved to eliminate the risk of puddles gathering during heavy rain or snow and ice melts.

The rail organisation explained that, although repairs have been carried out at the station over the years, advances in platform maintenance technology means that the upcoming work will be more effective and longer lasting.

Work on the 12-week project will take place both during the day and night, with nightshift working hours being 23:00 – 06:00 on Saturdays – Thursday.

Helen Agnew, project manager at Network Rail, said, “The essential work we’re carrying out at Addiewell will mean passengers will be able to move around the station safely and comfortably for years to come. We understand that closing the platform temporarily may cause some inconvenience in the short term, but we’ve worked with colleagues at ScotRail to minimise disruption through provision of replacement buses.

“We thank passengers and neighbours for their patience and understanding throughout these works.”
