MILNGAVIE town centre’s much-loved Copland & Lye clock is undergoing a restoration project.
The work comes following a regular maintenance visit which revealed that water ingress had become a ‘significant’ issue and that the clock’s steel structure was showing signs of corrosion.
The three-faced timekeeper, which was first installed in 1981, has been transported to a specialist workshop to be repaired – with East Dunbartonshire Council anticipating that the work will take approximately 12 weeks, with the clock then being returned to its original site.
Councillor Gordan Low, leader of East Dunbartonshire Council, said, “The clock has been an iconic fixture in Milngavie town centre for more than 40 years and is a popular meeting place. These essential repairs will mean it can return and remain in place for many years to come.
“I’m pleased we have been able to allocate external funding – helping to fulfil our ongoing commitment to improving local town centres without putting additional pressure on Council finances.”
