UNITE the Union has announced it is to hold meetings in Aberdeen and Dundee on Monday January 15 to offer legal support to Stewart Milne Group workers following the business being placed into administration.

The union, which represents over 60 tradespersons at the construction company, previously stated it is exploring legal action against the firm ‘due to its failure to consult the workforce or Unite in a redundancy situation as ‘no notice’ was given’.

Workers will have the chance to discuss protective award claims and further legal support. Interviews with workers can be facilitated by Unite officers at the venues upon request.

Administrators Teneo stated that 217 trade roles will be lost but Unite said it is feared hundreds more in the supply chain will be impacted. Unite has demanded the Scottish Government and local authorities work with the union to explore how the workers can be found suitable alternative employment on public procurement contracts.

The first two meetings will be held on January 15 at the Apex Hotel in Dundee at 10.30-12.30pm and at Aberdeen’s Beach Ballroom, Beach Promenade from 2.30-5pm.
