Ex-Clark Contracts director retires from the business after almost 30 years

FORMER Clark Contracts director Iain Blair has retired from the business after almost three decades of service.

A qualified quantity surveyor, Iain started his career in the industry in 1981, joining Paisley-based Clark Contracts as commercial manager in 1995 and became a director in 2002.

In one of his roles as director, Iain ran the company’s fit out division and supported its growth in delivering higher-value projects, with the division now delivering projects up to £30 million in value, compared with £1 million when Iain took over in 2005.

During this time he oversaw the delivery of projects across the UK for customers including The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Ernst & Young, The Weir Group, Maclay Murray & Spens, Pinsent Masons, IBM, IMI and Audit Scotland.

Iain stepped down from the board in 2017, but has continued to work at Clark Contracts, supporting the delivery of projects across the business.

He said, “During my time with Clark Contracts, I have seen the company grown from a turnover of £8 million to its current turnover of £100 million, move to a purpose-built office and grow from around 60 employees to over 250. It has been brilliant to be involved in the growth of the company over this 30-year period, and I look forward to seeing the future success of the business.

MD Gordon Cunningham added, “Iain has played a massive part in our growth over the last 20 to 30 years, and will be missed by everyone within the business. We wish him all the best in his well-deserved retirement and I’m sure there will be many others within the industry who have worked with Iain over the years and will wish him all the best.”

As a thank you for his service, keen cyclist Iain was given an early retirement gift of hospitality tickets to watch the 2023 UCI World Championships in Glasgow, and then a celebratory meal with some colleagues past and present.
