AS part of its recent health and safety talk to Gilmerton Primary School, Taylor Wimpey East Scotland set pupils a challenge to design a health and safety poster that would remind the local community of the dangers associated with playing near construction sites.
The build of new homes at Taylor Wimpey’s Farrier Fields development in South Gilmerton, Edinburgh is now well underway.
The winner was Phoebe, with Taylor Wimpey revealing that the standard of entries was so impressive that a further eight designs were selected to be included within a banner to be displayed at the site.
As well as having their designs showcased on the banner, the children each won a £10 book voucher.
Deryck Schendel, regional health and safety advisor for Taylor Wimpey in Scotland, said, “Health and safety in and around our construction areas is so important to Taylor Wimpey. As a follow-up activity to our in-school health and safety presentation, our poster challenge is a great way for children to demonstrate what they learned during our visit.”
Headteacher Mrs Annand added, “Following the health and safety presentation by Taylor Wimpey earlier this year, the children were tasked with creating health and safety posters. The designs that feature on the banner for the development are colourful and striking, and we are very proud of our children’s efforts to remind the wider local community never to play near a live construction site.”
Meanwhile, Taylor Wimpey East Scotland also recently challenged Primary 6 pupils of Letham Mains Primary School to design a flag to welcome customers and visitors to its Letham Meadows development, at Letham Mains in Haddington.
The winning design was created by Daliya Vasileva, and it has been produced into a flag that now flies at the entrance to the development to provide a colourful welcome to visitors. Daliya took home a £50 book voucher and visited the development to see the flag in situ.
A further six impressive entries were chosen to form part of additional signage at the development. Each child with a featured design has received a £15 book voucher.
Headteacher Bruce Murray said, “Taking part in the Taylor Wimpey competition to design a flag for their new Letham Meadows housing development was an exciting opportunity for our Primary 6 children. The children enjoyed tackling their brief to create a bold and colourful design, and I understand the judges found it hard to choose a winner due to the high standard of entries. The flag looks great, and the banner is so colourful too. Together they showcase the hard work and artistic talent of our children and create a lovely connection between our school and the local Taylor Wimpey development at Letham Meadows.”
Kirsty McGill, sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey East Scotland, commented, “We are delighted with the winning flag design and indeed the other designs that we chose to create a welcome banner. Together they make a very colourful welcome to our development.
“We recognise the importance of making sure that we support the communities in which we build our new homes. It has been our pleasure to work with Letham Mains Primary on this project, and to strengthen and extend our links once again within the local community of Letham Mains in Haddington.”
