Newly refurbished school ready for pupils in Grantown

STAFF and pupils at Grantown Primary School are celebrating the completion of works at their newly refurbished school.

The Highland Council project was led by Compass Building and Construction Services alongside sister company Orbis Services, which oversaw the plumbing, heating, and mechanical elements of the work.

Works to the main school building included the creation of a new production kitchen and dining room, as well as the refurbishment of all toilets, the redecoration of classrooms, the staff room, and games hall, and the creation of a secure lobby.

The school’s youngest pupils will benefit from the newly refurbished ELC nursey and P1 classroom in the annex building. The building also includes a multipurpose/dining area with servery. The heating system received an upgrade in both the main school and annex building.

The grounds were given improved safety and security with new perimiter fencing. An outdoor classroom with an adjacent sandpit now has improved external access.

Compass Building and Construction Services spent time forming a strong relationship with the school during the project, with pupils and staff being shown around the site during various stages. The contractor also purchased high-vis vests to ensure the children’s safety and gifted new sports tops to the school’s athletics team.

Thom Macleod, MD of Compass Building and Construction Services, said, “I am delighted with the completion of Grantown Primary School, the latest successful project delivered for The Highland Council via the SPA public buildings framework.

“Working in live public premises brings the added dimension of works segregation whilst maintaining a pleasant and ambient environment for staff to deliver the curriculum for each of the classes. The successful delivery at Grantown Primary School exemplifies the absolute best outcome that can be achieved when all stakeholders in the process communicate efficiently and work together to achieve common goals and this should act as a template of best practice that should be carried forward into all future similar commissions.”

Bill Lobban, convener for The Highland Council, added, “I was delighted to visit the school to join in with the celebration of our newly refurbished primary school. The main school and annex building look wonderful with their bright classrooms and improved grounds. I would like to thank everyone who has been involved in the delivery of this project and for their part in creating a fresh and welcoming environment for pupils to play and work in.”
