A new community hub is to be built in Kirkcaldy after Fife councillors gave the £15 million project the go-ahead.
The facility, to be built in the Templehall area, will replace the existing community centre, local office, Argos Community Education Centre, and library service.
Fife Council said it will replace the cluster of ‘ageing’ and ‘poor quality’ facilities that exist in the area – with the aim being to provide an inclusive and welcoming facility with a range of support and advice services in one place.
Key features include a training kitchen for adults and young people; a community meeting area with outside seating; a computer room; a reception area where people can access centre activities; a games hall to host events and fitness activities; accessible rooms; a bike and pram store; and multi-use games area.
Fife Council said it anticipates that work on the build of the hub is set to start at the end of 2024.
David Ross, Fife Council leader, said, “We have discussed plans and ideas for this important development with the community for a long time and it’s great to see plans finally coming together. This will make a huge difference to the community of Templehall and the wider Kirkcaldy area.”
