THE Donaldson Group has welcomed the UK Government’s Timber Construction Policy Roadmap, outlining its plans to increase timber use in construction.
Andrew Donaldson, Donaldson Group CEO, said, “As a business that has been advocating the use of timber for centuries, we are glad to see the benefits of this material finally being recognised by both the Government and the wider industry.
“The structural timber industry is well placed to provide the increased number of timber-frame homes suggested by Government. Our sector is already capable of providing the data, guidance, and quality assurances the wider industry needs to safely design and build more sustainably with timber.
“There are areas of the report that we believe could be delivered sooner, and it’s disappointing to see that some of the potential measures for embodied carbon reduction have been delayed until 2025 and others until 2028. However, this is a definite step in the right direction, and by working in partnership with Government and the wider industry, we will be able to achieve many of the objectives of the report potentially much earlier than envisaged.”
