Cruden delivers housebuilding lessons to primary pupils

CRUDEN Homes recently visited St Paul’s RC Primary School in East Calder to talk to pupils  about the housebuilding industry and the role it plays within communities across Scotland.

Sales manager Louise Bastiani and senior contracts manager Willie Kavanagh attended the school to showcase what it is like to work in Scotland’s construction sector.

Primary 1 pupils learnt about the variety of roles that contribute to the building of new homes and gained awareness of site safety and the dangers around building sites. At the end of the session, the children were given the opportunity to try on Cruden’s PPE equipment and get a small taste of life in the industry.

The visit forms part of the developer’s commitment to enhance the communities in which it builds. Cruden is delivering over 120 new homes at its Wellwater Grove development in the area, comprising a mix of private and affordable properties.

Teacher Amy Rodford said, “It was fantastic to see our primary 1 pupils eager to learn about Cruden and the work they are carrying out. Even in their early years, we want to help our pupils gain a better understanding of the different sectors that play such a big role in their day-to-day lives. Louise and Willie did a great job interacting with the children, answering their questions and highlighting the importance of keeping safe around construction sites.”

Louise Bastiani added, “Local school visits are always a joy and we were blown away by the level of curiosity that we received from the children at St Paul’s RC Primary School. It’s important to educate local communities on the benefits of housebuilding, but also to encourage young people to keep safe and act responsibly around building sites. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed themselves and seemed to take a lot on board. I hope to see some of them embarking on a career in the industry in future and have no doubt they’ll all go very far!”
