Milestone for new 89-home Killearn development

CALA Homes (West) has announced groundworks are underway at the housebuilder’s new Ballagan Woods development in Killearn.

Plans for the site comprise a mix of 89 homes including 14 two-bedroom bungalows, making it the first Cala Homes (West) development to feature the one-storey property. This will complement the three-bed terraced and semi-detached homes, and four and five-bedroom detached houses earmarked for the site which have been designed around ‘plentiful’ green space, including a village green and children’s play area.

A new foot and cycle path will connect the site to the village and a bus stop will be located at the entrance of the development.

Ballagan Woods sits on the site of the former Killearn Hospital and grounds which holds significant importance to the local community, given its role during the World War Two. Cala explained it has given ‘considerable’ thought to the design of the site, bringing it back into use after it had fallen into disrepair.

This includes the use of a new design for the exterior of the homes, which has been inspired by the rural countryside that surrounds the development and Scandinavian style.

Ruairidh MacKinnon, site manager at Cala Homes (West) Ballagan Woods, said, “Ballagan Woods is a landmark development for Cala Homes (West) and we expect our bespoke bungalows to attract significant attention, given how rarely available they now are in new build developments across the country. The team has made great progress against the demolition, remediation and preparation works to date before we get underway with the housebuilding construction and start to see the homes come out of the ground.

“Killearn and the surrounding area is a beautiful place to call home with close proximity to the Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park and we expect to see significant demand for homes at Ballagan Woods given its location, access to local amenities and the high-quality homes available.”

As Cala Homes (West) progresses with works, the housebuilder added it will continue to foster relationships with the local community, including with Balfron High School. This partnership will include support at career fairs, guest speaker opportunities in senior classes, and work experience placements.
