Housebuilder’s donation supports purchase of school learning equipment

BELLWAY Homes Ltd (Scotland East) has donated £3,365 to Elphinstone Primary in East Lothian to help pay for learning equipment.

The school plans to use the cash to buy large school unit block sets, a learning tool designed to foster open-ended, creative and constructive play amongst children and help develop their critical thinking skills.

Last term the housebuilder, which is developing a new residential site in the village, which is near Tranent, donated £500 to the school parent teachers association.

Chris Graham, sales manager, Bellway Homes Ltd (Scotland East), said, “The pupils have been really interested in finding out all about the new local homes that are being built and we are in the process of arranging a visit to our site so they can see first-hand all the different elements that go into building a new development. It’s very important to us to support the communities in which we build and ensure that our developments are sympathetically integrated within existing neighbourhoods, particularly in a village as small as Elphinstone, and our new residents welcome.”

Elaine Williamson, a principal teacher at Elphinstone Primary, added, “We are delighted by this contribution from Bellway. We are looking to ensure these blocks are used from nursery to primary seven to support the children’s learning in science, technology, engineering and technology. We hope to take the children over to visit the new development when it is safe to do so.”
