Housebuilder’s donation funds new sports equipment at Bargeddie primary school

PUPILS at St Kevin’s Primary in Bargeddie can now enjoy over £1,000 worth of new sports equipment courtesy of Barratt Developments.

The housebuilder donated £1,250 to the school following a parent council request to help upgrade facilities. The school is close to Barratt Homes’ The Fairways development where many of the families attending St Kevin’s currently live.

Estelle Sykes, sales director of Barratt Developments West Scotland, said, “Keeping children fit and active is such a huge part of the curriculum and we’re thrilled to be able to help the pupils at St Kevin’s in any way possible. Giving back to our community is something we pride ourselves on at Barratt and we’re so pleased that our donation has provided the opportunity to upgrade the school’s gym facilities. Hopefully, the money will make a huge difference to both staff and students.”

With construction of the new campus underway, the school was in need of new equipment as funding had been allocated to swimming lessons and educational outings. Dr Gareth Jones, from the parent council, reached out to Barratt to see if the firm could offer any help.

The cash has funded new basketball hoops, target games, target rugby belts and sports balls for tennis, table tennis, hockey, golf and football.

Dr Gareth Jones, parent chair of St Kevin’s Primary parent council, on behalf of the parent council, said, “This year we have provided extracurricular activities for the pupils at St Kevin’s, such as swimming lessons and educational class outings, so the donation from Barratt Developments to upgrade the children’s sports equipment has been warmly welcomed and have been a huge hit with the pupils! We are very grateful and look forward to enjoying the benefits of a wide range of sports equipment.”
