HDR, an international engineering consultancy for the built environment, has announced five new hires at its office in Glasgow.
Representing a 20% growth of the team, the appointments were made to accommodate new and recurring client work and support HDR’s two largest service lines in the region: sustainability and power.
John Paterson takes the role of associate on the power team while Alison Campbell, Ben Boucher-Myers and Kerry Cheek join as senior consultants on the sustainability team, which also welcomes Hannah Lawson as graduate consultant.

John has 35 years’ industry expertise and, as a chartered electrical engineer and European engineer, has held roles in large-scale investment and improvement projects throughout his career, including for major UK infrastructure and renewable power clients. Previous tenures include SSEN Transmission and the Ministry of Defence as technical authority.
Alison brings eight years’ engineering and project management experience, with stints at distillery firm William Grant & Sons and most recently at Glasgow-based energy engineering company Synergie Environ as energy and projects engineer.
Ben, with six years in environmental advisory and delivery, is a specialist in policy development, stakeholder engagement, and regulatory compliance. His recent role at regulator Ofgem involved managing policy development projects and, prior to that, he was environmental adviser at James Donaldson and Sons.
Kerry has gained a combination of environmental, financial, and marketing experience over the past six years. She joins from energy policy specialist Hutcheson Associates where, as policy and strategy manager, she analysed environmental policy to identify risks and opportunities for clients.
Hannah recently embarked on her career in sustainable development, having completed an MSc in sustainability transitions at the University of Aberdeen. Her studies have provided a strong foundation and understanding of sustainability practices, covering everything from aquaculture, energy transition and contemporary environmental challenges, to rural and environmental policy and law, and the governance and political economy of sustainability.
HDR’s Glasgow team undertakes an array of services, from energy auditing, ESG and net zero strategies to power delivery. Notable projects include leading on an energy strategy and hydrogen fuel cell installation to provide low-carbon energy for the P&J Live Aberdeen Energy Centre and helping ensure a greener future for Scotland’s public transport with the delivery of a depot housing the world’s first hydrogen-powered, zero emission double decker buses.
