GLASGOW-based architect Anderson Bell + Christie has been awarded a Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) Scotland Award in partnership with The City of Edinburgh Council for a new housing project at Sighthill.
The practice received the ‘Excellence in Regeneration and Sustainability’ Award at the 2023 Chartered Institute of Housing Awards for the development, which provides 184 new homes in the west of Edinburgh and features a range of house sizes and types.
Senior architect Eoin Kavanagh, who led the regeneration project at Sighthill, worked alongside the council and the rest of the team at Anderson Bell + Christie to complete the project over a number of years.
The site was previously occupied by high-rise flats. The new housing addresses the previous lack of good quality, accessible routes to and within the area by providing attractive and safe pedestrian routes to Sighthill Park and the adjacent Napier University campus.

The design process for this project was based on a masterplan and design guide resulting in a neighbourhood with a ‘sense of place’ – a coherent and consistent character with attractive streets and greenspaces.
“We’re proud to share that it has improved the housing choices available and provides accessible homes across Sighthill as well as them being energy efficient which will help reduce fuel poverty and minimise carbon emissions in the area. This is a prestigious accolade in our industry, so we’re thrilled to have won the ‘Excellence in Regeneration and Sustainability’ award 2023 with City of Edinburgh Council.”
