ABERDEEN’S long-term plan for tackling climate change has been recognised as the best in the UK.
The net zero Aberdeen route map won Excellence in Plan Making Practice at the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) Awards for Planning Excellence.
The route map sets out a strategy for reducing emissions of harmful greenhouse gases, including using clean energy sources such as hydrogen. Judges highlighted the way the local authority had collaborated with partner organisations to develop the plan.
Convener of the net zero, environment, and transport committee at Aberdeen City Council, councillor Ian Yuill, said, “This national award recognises the considerable efforts taking place in Aberdeen to play our part in combating climate change. Net zero Aberdeen is a joint effort across the city. Every individual, business and organisation can play their part.”
The award follows success in June this year when the route map won the same category at the Scottish awards ceremony.
Vice-convener councillor Miranda Radley added, “To repeat this success at UK level is a great achievement. This award highlights our ambitions to work in partnership, as a city, to improve and enhance the environment.”
