MORRISON Construction Building North East has completed the build of the new £23 million Greyhope School and community hub in Aberdeen.

Aberdeen City Council received the keys to the new school and community hub earlier this week, with hub North Scotland having delivered the project on behalf of the local authority.

Built on the former Torry Academy site at Tullos Circle, the project involved the removal of the previous school building at the site – with the total cost of the project standing at £28 million.

The new school and community hub will provide a primary school for up to 434 primary-age pupils with early learning and nursery provision for up to 100 children. The building will benefit from having a range of essential services from housing, community learning, library, café, and health services that can all be accessed from the one location.

Mike Bruce, MD of Morrison Construction North East, said, “Morrison Construction and our local supply chain are delighted to have completed the construction of Greyhope School and community hub on time, safely and on budget. We hope that everyone from the local area will make full use of the facilities in the coming months and years.”

Ewen Fowlie, operations director at hub North Scotland, added, “This has been another great team effort to deliver a fantastic school and community facility which will be a focal point for Torry for generations to come.”

Councillor Martin Greig, Aberdeen City Council’s education and children’s services convener, said, “I am very pleased that we have now taken ownership of the new Greyhope School and Community Hub. We can now start the process of fitting out this fantastic building. It will not only be a school for hundreds of pupils but will be a real community hub with welcome facilities for the local community.

“It’s especially good to know that the project, like Countesswells School, was delivered on time and on budget.”

Councillor Jessica Mennie, of Aberdeen City Council, added, “To have the construction work completed and to get the keys to the new school and community hub is wonderful. We can now look forward to getting the new facilities in place and ready for pupils and staff and the wider community.”
