SCOTLAND’S two busiest railway stations are set for a £13.3 million upgrade with the installation of new high-definition customer information screens.

Network Rail explained that the the new technology at Glasgow Central and Edinburgh Waverley will display clear information with white text on a black background – providing a ‘much easier’ to read format than previous versions.

The low power, digital screens are also clearer in all lighting conditions and will respond to changes in ambient lighting whilst using smart power management to support Scotland’s Railway’s net zero ambitions. The system will sleep during the night, allowing it to save energy and extend its working life.

Work on the large departure board screens in Edinburgh Waverley and Glasgow Central is due to be completed in November.

Phil Campbell, ScotRail customer operations director, said, “Everyone across Scotland’s Railway is committed to delivering the best possible service for our customers, and customer information is a huge part of that.

“The new information screens being installed at Edinburgh Waverley, Glasgow Central, and across the country make it even easier for customers to access live travel information.

“These high-tech screens support a sustainable railway and contribute to our journey towards net zero.”
