ICE Scotland has welcomed the focus on collaborative working in Transport Scotland’s newly published Approach to Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience.

The publication outlines the key climate risks affecting the nation’s transport system and sets out strategic outcomes for road, rail, aviation and maritime transport networks.

ICE Scotland director Ben Westland said the organisation is looking forward to being one of the stakeholders involved in taking the vision forward.

“Our 2020 report, ‘Climate Ready Infrastructure’ stated without mitigation measures, the impact of extreme weather on all Scotland’s infrastructure will only increase, with potentially devastating consequences for the assets which underpin every aspect of Scotland’s economy and society,” he said.

“We again call on the Scottish Government to support a resiliency audit – bringing together the public, private, third and academic sectors to have maximum impact, establish finance and delivery mechanisms, and assess where climate readiness is best supported not by adaptation or retrofit but by new assets.”
