South Ayrshire Council eyes major refurbishment of Citadel Leisure Centre

SOUTH Ayrshire Council is working with Alliance Leisure to develop initial proposals to refurbish the Citadel Leisure Centre.

Although in the ‘very early stages’, discussions to date have centred around an improved user experience which will maximise the opportunities for tourism and attracting a new customer base.

Staying mindful of the remedial works required throughout the facility, the project will ensure the £10 million investment is used to not only repair the fabric of the building, but create a fresh and innovative destination for residents and tourists, the council said.

Leader of South Ayrshire Council, Martin Dowey, said, “We want to make sure everyone has the opportunity to stay active, fit and healthy, and these design concepts give a great idea of what the improvements could look like at The Citadel Leisure Centre.

“The centre is used by over 300,000 people every year for a wide range of activities, and we want to make sure it has the best facilities and equipment so that everyone can access and enjoy a great space for play, sport and recreation. I’m really looking forward to seeing this project progress.”
