TWO West Lothian schools are to benefit from major improvement works in a £1.7 million renovation and extension programme.
Kirkhill Primary in Broxburn will see close to £1.2 million invested to refurbish part of the existing school into a new modern nursery. The work, which includes a new roof, is currently ongoing and is expected to be complete by August 2023.
Nearly £500,000 is being invested in Livingston Village Primary to deliver enhanced dining and social spaces for pupils, as well as reconfiguring a storage area to provide increased learning spaces. Work is expected to be completed in autumn 2023.
Executive councillor for education, Andrew McGuire, said, “I’m delighted to see further investment of £1.7 million to improve two more West Lothian schools. West Lothian already has one of the best school estates in the country, and investment like this will ensure we give our children the best possible platform for learning.”
Both projects are being carried out by West Lothian-based Maxi Construction following a competitive tendering process. Maxi have delivered a number of successful projects on behalf of the council in recent years, including the new Whitburn Partnership Centre and an extension to Blackridge Primary.
John Aitchison, Maxi Construction’s MD, added, “The award of these contracts enables us to build on our established relationship with West Lothian Council and adds to our extensive experience in the provision of upgraded and extended education facilities.”
