Bespoke solution makes light work of gutter task in Crossford

MARLEY Alutec has supplied a guttering, fascia and soffit solution for Howiesonhall, a private house in Crossford, South Lanarkshire.

Unfortunately for Aileen Morrison, owner of the property, the original cast iron guttering was too shallow, meaning it would often overflow during periods of heavy rain. The system had to be replaced and there was the additional challenge of the roof featuring several curves.

“I was worried that these requirements would complicate a new guttering installation,” Aileen said. “I began looking for an aluminium solution as I knew it was a high-quality material that requires little maintenance and I discovered Marley Alutec.”

Marley’s area sales manager for Scotland recommended the Evolve Deepflow gutters and Tudor 76mm downpipes, with bespoke radiused gutter sections for the curves. The Evoke aluminium fascia and soffit was said to be ‘ideal’ as it could be easily formed to fit the curvature of the building on-site by the installer. The system was selected in Heritage Black, which helped to imitate the appearance of the previous cast iron system.

Evolve Deepflow is a 128 x 75mm rainwater gutter system that has a flow rate of up to 4.9 l/s and 232m2 per downpipe. Along with the Tudor Circular downpipes, Marley said the system is 65% lighter than traditional cast iron, so easier to install. Both products are made from marine-grade aluminium.

To create the bespoke sections, Marley Alutec used the segmented radiused gutter method, which is achieved by internally welding together segments of machine mitred gutter to a given radius.

To undertake the installation, Frank O’Hara from local roofing contractor Faskin Group was recommended. Frank said, “The installation went well, thanks mainly to the products, which are always of a good quality, lightweight and easy to work with.”

The work on Howiesonhall was completed in two weeks, with Aileen Morrison delighted with the results. “I thought the bespoke requirements would be far more difficult to complete but Marley Alutec and Frank made light work of them – the whole process was painless.”
