ROBERTSON Construction Group has secured the contract to build Aberdeen’s replacement Riverbank School in Tillydrone.

It comes following a decision taken at an Aberdeen City Council meeting in August 2022 to re-tender the project to ensure it got the ‘best value’, with the local authority revealing that the new contract sum is ‘significantly’ lower than previously tendered.

Works are now expected to begin on the build in spring, with an expected completion date of summer 2024. The new school is being built on the site of the former Tillydrone Infant School and also on part of the former St Machar Primary School site.

The three-stream primary school with early learning and childcare provision will also include a 3G sports pitch and external outdoor play and learning facilities, with the build increasing the local primary school capacity to cater for families moving to new housing developments in the area.

Aberdeen City Council convener of finance and resources, councillor Alexander McLellan, said, “I am incredibly pleased that we are now in a position to move forward with the build of the school, at a much lower cost, following the re-tendering exercise.

“I look forward to seeing the construction get started and progress over the coming months.”
