SWIMMERS in Port Glasgow have received an early Christmas present after the town’s pool reopened following emergency repairs.

Owned by Inverclyde Council, the facility also houses an Express fitness gym and health suite which includes a steam room and sauna.

The swimming pool section of the building was forced to close in October, after a maintenance inspection identified corrosion in parts of its balcony and walkway. Almost £70,000 worth of repairs were subsequently carried out.

Councillor Jim Clocherty, Inverclyde Council’s convener of education and communities, said, “It’s great that we’ve been able to conclude the repair works before Christmas to give customers who use Port Glasgow swimming pool an early present.”

Stuart Boyle, operations manager at Inverclyde Leisure, said, “It’s fantastic that the remedial works have been completed so quickly and the building has been given the green light to re-open.”
