Construction of 134 new homes underway in capital

TAYLOR Wimpey East Scotland has revealed construction is underway on the first of 134 new homes at its Farrier Fields site in Edinburgh.

The development will comprise 100 two, three and four-bedroom homes, as well as 34 affordable homes offering a mix of two and three-bedroom terraced and semi-detached homes together with associated infrastructure.

The land at Gilmerton South forms the final phase of a masterplan development to deliver almost 1,000 new homes, which was granted Planning Permission in Principle (PPiP) in 2016. Taylor Wimpey said its Farrier Fields project complements the masterplan design framework, to integrate with the existing housing near the boundaries of the wider site.

Pauline Mills, land & planning director for Taylor Wimpey East Scotland, said, “Our programme of pre-construction works has gone well, and we are so pleased to be starting work on the first new homes at our Farrier Fields development in Gilmerton, which will complete the vision of the Gilmerton South Masterplan and further cement our commitment and investment in Edinburgh.

“As one of the largest housebuilders in the UK, we are committed to building more than homes and making sure that we add social, economic and environmental value to the wider communities that we operate in.

“As well as an impressive range of new homes, our development will also provide a range of economic benefits for the local Gilmerton and wider Edinburgh area which includes supporting around 469 jobs during construction, as well as the attraction of new customers to local businesses from those who choose to live in one of the new homes this development aims to deliver.”
