Chartered surveying firm rings the bell to mark major milestone

DM Hall has gifted a brass bell to Bearsden and Milngavie’s Douglas Park Golf Club to celebrate a joint anniversary milestone.

The chartered surveying specialist, which has 24 branches throughout Scotland, is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year, and has had a long relationship with the golf club – which also has its 125th anniversary in 2022.

To mark the occasion, DM Hall specially commissioned for the sixth hole at the club a seven-inch diameter bell and an accompanying brass plaque which reads:

To celebrate joint 125th anniversaries, and the enduring partnership between Douglas Park Golf Club and DM Hall Chartered Surveyors, the firm has gifted this bell to club members for the 6th hole.

The DM Hall Bell was rung for the first time by Alan Gordon, senior partner at the firm, and Iain Brodie, gentlemen’s vice-captain and a member at the club for more than 50 years.

Alan Gordon said, “DM Hall has had a mutually beneficial association with Douglas Park, having been involved in running Pro-Am tournaments there over some 32 years, attracting high-profile professionals. The par 69 course is a fascinating mixture of tricky woodland and rolling parkland and has given players 125 years of challenging sport since it opened under the captaincy of William Lyon in October 1897.

“We wanted to do something different and lasting to mark our joint celebrations and we think the bell will symbolise an enduring quality which is shared by both the firm and the club.”

Iain Brodie added, “This has been a splendid gesture by DM Hall which encapsulates the long-term relationship between the firm and the club. It is remarkable that, when Mr Will Gibson of Bearsden proposed forming club in 1897, only 11 neighbours turned up. Now it is one of the most popular clubs in Scotland.”
