HERON Bros Ltd is to deliver a £345,000 ‘makeover’ of Helensburgh Pier to improve its appearance and add to the overall improvement works ongoing at the waterfront.

Funded by Crown Estates and the Scottish Government, the programme of works includes resurfacing the masonry section of the pier and replacing the lighting over a six to eight week period, with works due to start on July 11.

Heron Bros Ltd is currently delivering Helensburgh’s new £22 million waterfront leisure centre. Argyll and Bute Council said that the pier works will be in keeping with landscaping already carried out as part of that development, with the surface set to match the quality and finishes of the waterfront development project – enhancing views looking out from the swimming pool and gym.

Councillor Robin Currie, policy lead for the economy and rural growth at Argyll & Bute Council, said, “Carrying out essential improvement works to the listed pier will not only visually lift this area of the town but will increase pedestrian safety and add value to the substantial investment already taking place at the waterfront.

“The improvements will complement existing waterfront landscaping and help open up the town for residents and visitors to enjoy.”
