D&I Bain Ltd has been appointed to carry out repair works along the U1992 Evanton to Swordale road in the Highlands.

The Muir of Ord firm will undertake structural repairs on behalf of The Highland Council, with the project being funded under the Scottish Government’s strategic timber transport scheme.

Works will involve drainage improvements, ‘major’ patching works, and overlay. The council’s own workforce will also carry out a ‘significant’ length of surface dressing in late July.

Once complete, the works will allow for the current weight restriction on the road to be lifted and thus allow for timber extraction to resume.

The Highland Council said, “Much of the works will be on the single track sections of the route so delays and inconvenience will be inevitable, but the contractor will endeavour to keep any delays to a minimum. The council would like to thank residents for their patience and apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused.”
