Bellway to build 175 more homes at Shawfair after land purchase

BELLWAY Homes (Scotland East) has announced it has purchased a further parcel of land from Shawfair LLP to develop a new residential development near Sheriffhall on the outskirts of Edinburgh.

The move marks the second phase of housebuilding at Shawfair for Bellway after the firm committed to the redevelopment of the location in 2017.

On completion Shawfair will feature 4,000 new homes alongside a campus featuring nursery, primary and secondary schools, a swimming pool, theatre, sports pitches and training facilities.

Bellway’s latest development, which spans just under 15 acres, will feature 175 new homes comprising 140 for private sale and 35 affordable homes. Property styles will include three-bedroom semi and detached properties as well as four and five-bedroom homes. The affordable homes will include two-bedroom cottage flats and two, three and four-bedroom terraced properties.

Construction work is expected to start on site in the autumn.

Lynn Pringle, sales director, Bellway Homes (Scotland East), said, “It’s been terrific to see Shawfair grow and transform over the years, and see many families set up home. Undoubtedly its location continues to appeal to buyers, just 15 minutes by train into Edinburgh. We are delighted to be part of the next stage of the community’s development.”

Nick Waugh, director at Shawfair LLP, added, “This is welcome news for the Shawfair community. We are pleased Bellway Homes has demonstrated its commitment to Shawfair by planning to build a significant number of new homes in this second phase of development. This announcement is a significant step towards delivering the much needed homes for families and people wanting to enjoy the best of both worlds.”
