PHI Group has been carrying out the design, supply and installation of a gabion basket retaining wall at the new £22 million National Robotarium at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh.
Working for Robertson Construction, the retaining walls are set to form a feature SUDS pond in front of the new building. There are three gabion basket retaining walls in total supporting both sides of the pond, with the area adjacent to the building having a two-tiered construction.
In total over 175 linear metres of gabion baskets will be installed when complete.
Construction of the National Robotarium has been described as a first for the UK. The development is a partnership between the University of Edinburgh, Heriot-Watt University and the Edinburgh Centre for Robotics (ECR). The aim is to create an innovation hub for the application of robotics and autonomous systems.
“This is a really exciting project that Phi Group is proud to be involved in,” said Rob Torrington, Phi Group’s business development director.
