Firms begin £23.94m build of Highland housing development

WORK is underway on the £23.94 million build of a new affordable housing development in Fort William.

The Link development, which is partly funded by The Highland Council, is being built by JR Construction, WGC Scotland and TSL Contractors.

The first phase will see the build of 82 affordable homes with a mix of one to four-bedroom homes for social and mid-market rent, as well as new supply shared equity sale.

Gary McGregor, MD of The JR Group, said, “We are delighted to start working on this project for Link Group in conjunction with The Highland Council, The Scottish Government and Lochaber Housing Association at Upper Achintore. It is part of a huge commitment from Highland Council to deliver much-needed affordable new homes across Highland communities and we are delighted to be bringing such a key phase to fruition.

“The 82 homes we will build for Link, with whom we have a strong working relationship, are a mix of sizes and types which we know will bring massive benefit to the local area and meet the needs of the local community. We look forward to progressing with works over the coming months.”

Link Group commercial director, Colin Culross, said, “We look forward to working with our partners, JR Construction (Scotland) Ltd, WGC Scotland Ltd and TSL Contractors Ltd, to deliver these new, affordable and sustainable homes to the area, improving housing choices for the local community. In addition, we aim to provide 32 employment opportunities for local people through our contractors as part of our commitment to community benefit in procurement.

“We would also like to thank the Scottish Government and Highland Council for supporting this exciting new development by providing funding of £12.8 million £2 million respectively.”
