Council to buy property directly from owners to bolster Highlands’ affordable housing

Inverness, capital of the Highlands

THE Highland Council is to purchase properties directly from owners in a bid to bolster its housing stock.

It comes as the local authority looks to meet the need for additional affordable housing in the Highlands.

Councillor Laurie Fraser, chair of the council’s housing and property committee, said, “There is a continuing need for good quality affordable housing across Highland, especially for three, four and five-bed properties and we welcome the opportunity to meet some of this need through purchase of individual properties.”

The local authority added that it will consider purchasing properties across the Highlands which meet certain criteria – including condition and value.
