COUNCILLORS are to consider plans for the build of a Morrisons supermarket on land currently acting as a park in Aberdeenshire.

The area of ground lies to the west of the Deveron Bridge in Banff, and currently features a football pitch, pavilion, former community centre building and three redundant tennis courts.

Morrisons was named as the preferred bidder for the land by Aberdeenshire Council, with a subsequent public consultation on the plans garnering over 330 response in a three month period.

The local authority will meet on Tuesday (August 17) to discuss the response and form a decision. If backed, the supermarket itself would be built as well as a café, filling station, carwash, and parking area. The council added that proceeds from the sale would be go to its common good fund.
