TAYLOR Wimpey West Scotland has acquired land at the former Garnqueen Farm in Glenboig for a residential development comprising 535 new homes.
Planning consent was secured in September last year from North Lanarkshire Council. Pre-construction works are already underway to prepare the land for the construction of new homes later this year.
The development, which has been named Meadowside following a competition involving local school pupils, will deliver two, three and four-bedroom homes. As part of the masterplan vision of the Gartcosh and Glenboig Community Growth Area, Meadowside has been designed to integrate with the extension of the local nature reserve. It will provide a network of footpath connections to the wider local area as well as a central area of open space.
As part of Taylor Wimpey’s Section 75 agreement with North Lanarkshire Council, Meadowside will contribute towards community benefits including around £4 million towards education, road upgrades and the provision of play facilities.
Caroline Proctor, land and planning director at Taylor Wimpey West Scotland, said, “We are so pleased to have acquired this land at the former Garnqueen Farm in the village of Glenboig. This latest milestone for this development cements our commitment to bringing new homes to this thriving community. As well as acquiring the land, our pre-construction works are now underway, which are likely to take around four months before we start to build our new homes and aim to release these for sale early next year.”
