BANCON Construction has secured a batch of new contracts valued at more than £25 million.

The Aberdeenshire firm said that the new work paves the way for its continued growth into 2021. The contracts will see the firm working in Aberdeen, Dundee, Nairn and Inverness, as well as a £4 million contract for the long-awaited Montrose Playhouse project.

The work will transform a former swimming pool into a multi-million-pound three-screen community cinema, a café bar, community areas and retail spaces. Bancon announced that, as part of the development, they will work alongside the local community to provide training and work experience opportunities – as well as providing safety and career talks to local schools.

In Inverness, the firm is undertaking the £9 million build of 52 new homes and flats at Stratton Farm, on the outskirts of the city. Work commenced in August and is scheduled to be completed in just over a year.

Further work in the Highlands will see Bancon construction 12 flats and office space in Nairn, with work expected to begin in early 2021.

The firm has also been awarded a £5.5 million one-year contract by Abertay Housing Association, which will bring about the build of 43 affordable houses in Charleston in Dundee. The development includes a mix of detached and semi-detaches houses and flats, together with all associated services and external roadworks, landscaping and fencing.

A £4 million contract was also secured with Titan Aberdeen Investments Ltd for the creation of a new industrial development in the Altens area of the city. Work is already underway on the project, with it including the construction of a new office together with the refurbishment of an existing warehouse and its external areas.

Gavin Currie, managing director of Bancon Construction, said, “The UK construction industry has been hit hard by the global Covid-19 pandemic so we are particularly pleased to be able to move forward into 2021 with these significant new business wins. Having moved into Inverness two years ago, we are delighted to be continuing our work in the Highlands as well as Aberdeen, Dundee and Montrose, where we are proud to have been selected to work on an important and exciting project for the local community.

“Our team will be creating much-anticipated facilities as well as training and work experience for local people and school pupils. We are looking forward to working with our clients to deliver each of these key projects over the coming year or so.”
