Council launches wish list to help contractors meet community benefit quota

EAST Renfrewshire Council’s contractors and suppliers will now be able to support improvement projects directly requested by local communities.

Firms that win major contracts from the local authority must commit to supporting local causes through community enhancement, training and employment opportunities, work placements, school curriculum support and business supply chain development.

The council is now asking local residents to put forward any projects in their local community to be added to the wish list which will then be put forward to contractors and suppliers to choose from.

Any community group – including charities, schools and services – can submit the cause they would like supported. Any supplier will have a number of community benefit points to deliver as part of their contract and they will be asked to select from the wish list to fulfil this obligation.

East Renfrewshire Council leader, Tony Buchanan, said, “We are absolutely committed to ensuring that our communities benefit from our contract awards. There has already been some fantastic support shared across East Renfrewshire through the community benefit programme, including significant donations to local charities as well as employment and training opportunities for our young people. In these unprecedented times, I am in no doubt that there are many causes out there requiring support, so I am delighted that our contractors and suppliers will now be able to support projects that communities have identified themselves. I would encourage anyone with an idea to submit it to our wish list.”
