Derbyshire firm opens first Scottish premises

A UK building and plumbing supply firm has opened its first Scottish base in North Lanarkshire.

M Markovitz Ltd, headquartered in Derbyshire, opened the new premises at the M8 Interlink Industrial Estate in Coatbridge. The facility will allow for the creation of 12 jobs and will specialise in dry lining and insulation supplies for construction projects across the central belt.

North Lanarkshire Council worked alongside the firm to set up their business north of the border. The local authority said it will provide business engagement support to Markovitz, which will allow for the firm to engage with hub South West and the Build Lanarkshire programme, as well as the opportunity to create connections via the Construction Scotland Innovation Centre in Hamilton.

David Hopkins, CEO of Markovitz, said, “We were delighted to receive support from North Lanarkshire Council, enabling us to establish our first foothold in Scotland. This site is ideally placed to give us excellent links right across the central belt. Our doors are open and we are keen to look to further expand our operations North of the border.”

Enterprise manager at North Lanarkshire Council, Yvonne Weir, added, “We are very pleased to welcome Markovitz to Scotland and to North Lanarkshire, which gives them the ideal base to expand their operations. With excellent transport links, a skilled workforce and access to opportunities in the strong construction market across central Scotland, North Lanarkshire is well placed for companies, like Markovitz, to locate and invest.”
