New College Lanarkshire scoops top BIM training award

NEW College Lanarkshire has been named the best training provider of Building Information Modelling (BIM) at an industry awards ceremony.

The college won Best BIM Training Programme in the BIM Awards 2020.

HND course leader and WorldSkills UK BIM training manager Michael McGuire said, “Offering BIM training within a college context means we can offer BIM opportunities to anyone, not just our own company, which I think is what put us ahead of the other shortlisted candidates. The number of award-winning students and graduates we have produced also speaks volumes, with three students making Squad UK for WorldSkills Shanghai, two winning gold and bronze at the recent WorldSkills UK and our success within the BIM Awards for producing Rising Stars.

“Our course delivers the practical application of BIM and ensures that students leave with the skills, knowledge and practical experience that the industry is crying out for – which explains why so many of our students gain employment with some of the industry’s biggest names. It is fair to say that NCL is leading the way in innovation education in digital construction and BIM, and I am delighted that we have been recognised for this award.”

The award was announced by Timandra Harkness, presenter of BBC Radio 4 series FutureProofing and How to Disagree. Michael was presented the award from Robert Hine from the British Standards Institution.

Professor Christopher Moore, principal and CEO of New College Lanarkshire added, “This important award recognises NCL as being at the forefront of BIM education in the UK. Future-minded, industry relevant and academically rigorous, we are immensely proud of our BIM colleagues and students.”
