LENZIE-based Fleming Buildings has built a new £2.6 million community hub in Tranent, East Lothian.
The Fraser Centre has been constructed on the site of the town’s former Winton Cinema, and will provide a range of arts and cultural spaces. In keeping with the building’s heritage, there will also be a cinema as well as a cafe, meeting and training rooms, and rooms to let for local businesses.
Plans for the building date back to 2011. David Orr, project & development manager for The Fraser Centre Community Trust, was responsible for seeing them come to fruition. He said, “Until now we were the largest town in East Lothian without a community centre. We wanted to create a place for learning, development, arts and entertainment at the heart of the local community and that’s exactly what we’ve accomplished.”
Fleming Buildings director Ronnie Burrows added, “Over the past year we have really enjoyed working with locals to create a building that will be enjoyed for generations to come. The need for community centres with modern facilities is being recognised increasingly across Scotland and we have been, and continue to be, involved in the construction of a number of these hubs.”
