£20m Glasgow health and care centre handed over

MORGAN Sindall Construction has completed construction of a new £20 million health and care centre in Glasgow.

Located on Garscube Road, Woodside Health & Care Centre is set over three and a half storeys and brings together multiple clinicians under one roof.

The range of services to be provided include eight GP practices, children’s services, district nursing, health visiting, alcohol and drug recovery services, a day care centre for older people, a dental practice, as well as physiotherapy, podiatry, and sexual health services.

Designed by Page\Park, the centre has achieved a BREEAM rating of excellent. External cavity walls are formed using a mixture of structural framing system, brickwork and curtain walling. This, along with a glazed central atrium, is said to create an interior that benefits from natural lighting and ventilation.

The building’s exterior also has a number of precast concrete panels displaying artwork, devised by local surface design studio, Bespoke Atelier.

The project has been delivered in partnership with hub West Scotland, working with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Board, Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership and Glasgow City Council.

Eight new start opportunities for those not employed or in education were provided, along with 10 apprenticeships and one graduate position.

Stuart Parker, MD of Morgan Sindall Construction in Scotland said, “As 21st century healthcare advances, we’re witnessing a growing trend of closer and timely multidisciplinary collaboration between clinicians, which is improving treatment outcomes. Patients too are being rightly encouraged to proactively manage their health and wellbeing holistically.

“Both approaches are greatly facilitated by inspiring modern facilities that bring multiple services under one roof. Woodside Health & Care Centre is perfect example of great design applied to the healthcare sector. It’s the fifth healthcare project we’ve delivered for hub West Scotland and the finished high-quality result is a credit to all of the partners involved.”

Iain Marley, CEO of hub West Scotland added, “This building is another fantastic example of our collaboration with Glasgow City Council and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and I am proud that we had the opportunity to lead the development of such high quality facilities.”
