EDINBURGH School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture (ESALA) and Collective Architecture will deliver a ‘travelling exhibition’ to support the Scottish Government’s consultation on the future for housing.
The move has been commissioned in partnership with Architecture & Design Scotland ahead of a formal public consultation on the Scottish Government’s Housing to 2040 vision and strategy being launched in the autumn.
The views collected through consultation and at the travelling exhibition will help to inform the plans for housing over the next 20 years.
Communities secretary Aileen Campbell said, “We want everyone to have a warm, safe home they can afford in the community they want to live in. That is why we have made significant improvements to the housing system in Scotland, delivering more quality, affordable homes and supporting efficiency and innovation. We are now looking to the future and want to go further by ensuring that our housing system is dynamic, resilient enough to respond to changes and can address today’s challenges – from our ageing population to the global climate emergency. We also want to make sure we are delivering more of the right homes in the right places to meet people’s housing needs and aspirations.
“Our Housing to 2040 exhibition will be an exciting opportunity to hear directly from communities and people across the country about what’s important for them. We want to create a shared vision for Housing to 2040 together based on their experiences. Housing is also about more than just a place to live. It plays a vital role in creating sustainable, vibrant communities, promoting health and well-being, inspiring local democracy and empowerment. Our ambition is to ensure these elements are together in a shared vision for the future of housing in Scotland.”
Dr Kate Carter from ESALA added, “We are delighted to be working with Collective Architecture and Peak15 to create an interactive exhibition on housing for the people of Scotland. Housing is central to wellbeing and sustainability for communities. The exhibition will explore the role homes will play in creating a sustainable future for Scotland.”
