NHS agrees £40 million deal for two new hospitals

BALFOUR Beatty is to build two new hospitals in the north of Scotland, after NHS Highland signed a £40 million contract with hub North Scotland.

The facilities will be built for the Badenoch & Strathspey and Skye, Lochalsh & South West Ross areas.

The builds have been designed by architects Oberlanders and Rural design; Rybka will oversee the mechanical electrical and plumbing side of the developments with the civil and structural engineers being Waterman.

A turf cutting ceremony has already taken place to mark commencement of work in Aviemore for the Badenoch & Strathspey facility – with work expected to begin later this summer at Broadford on the Skye development.

Michael Padzinski, chief executive of hub North Scotland, said, “A lot of hard work has been carried out by all the stakeholders to reach this crucial stage. We are now looking forward to working together to deliver two top-class health facilities, which will bring huge benefits to these communities.”
