CELTIC Football Club has applied for planning permission to redevelop its training centre in Glasgow’s east end and construct one of the largest indoor football arenas in the country.
The club said the intended redevelopment of the Barrowfield site, near Celtic Park, would also feature a full-sized artificial surface, a gymnasium, and extended parking and changing facilities.
A further phase would see the construction of new refreshment and grandstand facilities for spectators.
Celtic added the indoor facility will allow ‘excellent’ training opportunities, particularly in poor weather for the Celtic first team, while the complex will also be used by Celtic’s women’s teams and academy sides.
The development will complement Celtic’s already established training base at Lennoxtown, which opened in 2007.
